Follow the canal du Midi
Runners and cyclists just love it here, probably because this place provides peace and quiet you won't find everywhere, protected from the wind and noise beneath the trees in green countryside. Even when the canal is swallowed up in the city of Toulouse, the hubbub of the big city is blocked out.
This is the perfect place to relax for a while right in the city centre centre. When you tour along the canal, do stop off in the many little villages with their picturesque wall bell-towers.
The Lauragais has many of these : we suggest Avignonet-Lauragais for its architectural heritage and its links back to the time of the Cathars.
A stop in Port-Lauragais is a must : here you can stroll around, buy regional products in the Maison de la Haute-Garonne and find out about the amazing history of the Canal du Midi, thanks to the exhibition “Pierre Paul Riquet”, who engineered the canal.
Start from the "Maison du vélo" in Toulouse and go down to Port-Lauragais, allow 4hrs return trip.
